Year III Curriculum

Year III will see the commencement of Key Stage 2 of the British National Curriculum. This year will also see the continuation of our Czech Programme (in conjunction with the MŠMT), for those who wish to avail of it. Year III curriculum includes:

English – Speaking and listening, reading (fiction / non-fiction), poetry, spelling, grammar, phonics, punctuation and writing.Mathematics – Counting (addition / subtraction), ordering, reading and writing. Fractions, Multiplication tables, distance and time, currency, decimals and geometry.History – Ancient Civilisations and migration.Geography – Weather, geographical areas, towns, settlements and land masses.Science – Health, nature, environment, geology, light, and material science.Design and Technology – Design and make projects related to topic work. Work with a range of materials and develop knowledge and understanding regarding health and safety.Music – Songs, instruments, listening and understanding.Art and Design – Drawing, Painting, Design and Modelling. Techniques and theme based art.Physical Education – Swimming, games, gymnastics and dance activities.ICT – Introduction to Word Processing, multimedia, emails, text messaging and information databasesSPHE – Social responsibility, confidence building exercises and healthy living.

Homework:Children will be expected to complete homework assignments each night on subjects and topics covered throughout the school week.
