Year VI Curriculum

Year VI will see the continuation and completion of Key Stage 2 of the British National Curriculum. This year will also see the continuation of our Czech Programme (in conjunction with the MŠMT), for those who wish to avail of it. Year VI curriculum includes:

English – Speaking and listening, reading (fiction / non-fiction), poetry, spelling, grammar, phonics, punctuation and writing.Mathematics – Counting (addition / subtraction), ordering, reading and writing. Fractions, multiplication, division, ratio and proportion, remainders, distance and time, currency, decimals and geometry.History – Ancient Civilisations, World War I and IIGeography – Mountains of the World, Czech settlements and contrasting society.Science – Forces, Sound and Micro-organisms Design and Technology – Design and make projects related to topic work. Work with a range of materials and develop knowledge and understanding regarding health and safety.Music – Songs, instruments, listening and understanding.Art and Design – Drawing, Painting, Design and Modelling. Techniques and theme based art.Physical Education – Swimming, games, gymnastics and dance activities.ICT – Word Processing, multimedia, emails, presentations, Internet Browsing, online safety and information databasesSPHE – Social responsibility, confidence building exercises and healthy living.

Homework:Children will be expected to complete homework assignments each night on subjects and topics covered throughout the school week.
